Pennsylvania man faces drunk driving charges

A man from Greencastle is facing serious charges following an alleged hit-and-run crash on the evening of Sept. 28, according to local sources. Pennsylvania police arrested the man on suspicion of drunk driving after he allegedly struck another vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was set to appear for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 9 at 8:15 a.m., and at last report was being held against $35,000 bail in a county prison.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg, a call came in at 7:10 p.m. regarding an alleged hit-and-run crash. Police arrived on the scene to find a vehicle with out-of-state plates rolled onto its side. Emergency personnel were able to enter the vehicle via the roof and extract the victim, an unidentified woman. She was rushed to a local hospital with serious but undetermined injuries to her body.

Police then followed a trail of vehicle fluid to a nearby driveway, where they found a vehicle with front-end damage and deployed airbags. Police say they also found several empty alcohol containers in the vehicle. The alleged driver, a 40-year-old man, was found allegedly intoxicated in the home, and had injuries consistent with encountering a deployed air bag. Police conducted two blood tests, returning results of .31 and .26 percent respectively. Both of these readings were well above the state limit of .08.

The man now faces charges of drunk driving, as well as several traffic violations and a charge of an accident involving an occupied vehicle. If he is found guilty, he could face prison time and fines. However, it will be up to Pennsylvania prosecutors to provide sufficient evidence that he was the driver of the vehicle, and that he was drunk at the time of the alleged incident. His criminal defense team will work against those charges by carefully reviewing the facts of the case to ensure his legal rights were respected throughout the investigation and arrest process.
