School superintendent charged with drunk driving

by | Feb 1, 2018 | drunk driving

Driving under the influence can have serious repercussions, especially if one is found guilty. Individuals who have been accused of drunk driving not only pay hefty fines, but they may also face social embarrassment or job-related problems. After a recent traffic stop, a western Pennsylvania school superintendent’s job is in jeopardy after he was charged with driving under the influence.

For unknown reasons, the superintendent was stopped by police for allegedly driving under the influence and was put on paid leave until his arraignment. In cases similar to this, there many factors to consider while waiting for an upcoming trial. Was the vehicle stopped for any legal reason? Was the stop performed under the accordance of the law? Was a field sobriety test given?

Building a defense is an important step when approaching any legal matter. Unexplained stops are not permitted under the law, meaning a police officer cannot pull someone over unless there is a legal reason. Police are also expected to obey certain rules and procedures when performing any DUI stops. If these rules are not properly followed, any related charges could potentially be reduced or dropped all together.

Cases involving drunk driving charges can be complex and intense if the accused is unaware of his or her legal rights. Pennsylvania residents who find themselves in a similar situation may benefit from the experience of a seasoned attorney to help look for evidence that could lead to a possible dismissal of any charges. An individual’s rights are important and should be protected every step of the way.
