Woman faces murder charge following alleged drunk driving crash

A woman in Pennsylvania is currently facing a murder charge in the third degree in connection with a fatal DUI accident. The alleged drunk driving accident recently occurred along Route 611. It took place on a Wednesday at about 9 p.m.

According to police, the 30-year-old woman was driving and suddenly breached the road's middle line. She thus ended up crashing head-on into a car that a 21-year-old man was driving. The man passed away in the collision.

The man's girlfriend, a 20 year old, was riding with him and was injured in the collision. Police said that the woman who caused the accident had many drugs in her body at the time of the crash, including fentanyl, amphetamine and oxycodone. In addition, her driver's license was suspended. Authorities said this is the woman's third DUI incident.

Those who are charged with drunk driving in Pennsylvania may naturally be fearful about losing their freedom and having tarnished reputations. Even though they face charges, the accusations are not evidence and do not constitute guilt. Prosecutors must prove an accused individual is guilty in court and beyond a reasonable doubt -- a standard that exists in an effort to prevent innocent people from being convicted of crimes -- before a conviction can be handed down. Rather than going to trial, a defendant may choose to pursue a plea agreement with prosecutors, as this might lead to lighter charges and/or a more lenient sentence. Either way, an attorney will strive to help the defendant to achieve the most favorable outcome possible.
